GARY VINCENT- OIL PAINTING


GARY VINCENT From an early age, Gary Vincent showed his talent for and love of making art. At age nine he was published in the Oregon Farmer’s Journal. He saved up and bought his first set of paints at thirteen and then proceeded to bicycle around the countryside in the Medford area and paint all that interested him. He was encouraged by his art teachers to enter national competitions and did so, becoming a first-place winner in the Scholastic Magazine National Art competition.

Vincent has studied with associates of the renowned Russian Impressionist, Sergei Bongart, including Ovanes Berberian, Del Gish and William F. Reese. He has been deeply influenced by their expert use of color and paints in the tradition of Bongart who stressed painting from the heart over simply masterful technique saying “the spirit of the painting can trump technique.”

Vincent’s very personal canvases show his love of the Oregon landscape. He successfully translates the feeling of place from the sketches he does of an area and the photos he takes, creating paintings that sparkle with life.

Though Vincent makes his living as a finish carpenter, he has always pursued his inner muse and continues to paint in his garage studio making frequent forays into the wilds of Oregon to find the right slant of light on aspens in the fall or a clear mountain stream.
